Smashing Plates

This new classified-ads website has nothing to do with Greek weddings, but lets you buy and sell personalised licence plates.

Smashing Plates has nothing to do with Greek weddings, but lets you buy and sell personalised number plates. These usually cost a bomb from professional dealers, but this classified-ads-style site charges £20 to place an advert and £5 to request a specific licence plate, with users willing to pay up to £5,000 for the likes of J1MBO and JUL14N. The site benefits from a clear layout and accurate search facility, but note that you’re buying the right to display a registration number, not the actual plate, and the licence will have to meet DVLA standards.
