Media-Convert

Whatever type of file you are looking to convert, this site can almost certainly handle it.

What we liked:
Media-Convert supports a staggering 167 different file types, although some are slight variations of other formats. It can work with video files, audio files, images, documents, data formats, compression files and much more.

All you have to do is browse your hard disk for the file you want (or enter a web address if converting online video). Media-Convert will automatically identify what kind of file it is and adjust the list of output formats accordingly.
Before converting a file you can choose various settings. The options available depend on the format you’re using. For example, for a video clip you can choose a preset from such options as DVD PAL, PSP and ‘Mobile phone’, and then select a suitable frame rate and video size.

When you’re ready you simply click on Convert. The process is fast; although the speed is relative to the size of the file you’re uploading (it accepts items up to 150MB in size) and its format.
The converted item is made available to download directly from the site; just click the button once the process has finished.

Media-Convert also features a MIDI sequencer, which lets you create and edit polyphonic ringtones online, and a dedicated WAP/GPRS uploader for converting mobile content.

How it can be improved:
We found the quality of some converted videos to be on the poor side, with clips going out of sync, so it would be good to see this given some attention. The interface isn’t that attractive either – it lacks the clean approach of the other sites we tested.

Our verdict:
Media-Convert is a superb file-conversion tool that’s fast, easy to use and powerful. Transforming a huge variety of formats, this site should prove perfect for most people’s day-to-day needs.
