The original movie rumour site Ain't It Cool News is the brainchild of self-confessed film geek Harry Knowles. The site made its name from high-profile scoops, most recently when Knowles posted a review of Star Wars: Episode 2 a full two months before its official release. Ain't It Cool was also first to rave about Titanic, when virtually all coverage of the production had been negative. When we visited, the site was buzzing with the first pictures from the Matrix sequel Matrix Reloaded and an exclusive review of the script for the forthcoming Watchman movie. Besides the daily postings of rumours and sneak reviews, the site boasts some incredibly busy forums. Ain't It Cool's supremacy is due largely to the quality of correspondents. Scores of trusted spies with pseudonyms like Moriarty and Hercules contribute reviews of test screenings, reports from film shoots and insider studio gossip. Speculation as to their real identities is rife, with fingers pointing at studio employees and production crew members. The site has a rough and ready feel, with news divided into weekly archives. Although there is a search facility better organisation of the information would be welcome. Harry Knowles has become a high-profile US industry figure, with studios quoting Ain't It Cool reviews in their marketing campaigns. There's an annual film festival highlighting his picks. Most exciting rumour: Anthony Hopkins is confirmed to play the part of Superman's father (played by Marlon Brando in the original) in a blockbuster remake of the 1978 film.
