Watch NORAD Santa Tracker live - Christmas Eve 2009

Watch NORAD Santa Tracker live

Rather than trying to catch a glimpse of Father Christmas out of your window, let NORAD's high-tech Santa Tracker do the work.

It uses radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets to keep track of his reindeer-powered progress.

Hang on ? fighter jets? Might the pilots not get the wrong idea and blast him out of the sky?

Anyway, assuming all is well, the official Santa Tracker begins at midnight on Christmas Eve MST (that's Mountain Standard Time ? 7am British time).

NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) has been tracking Santa since 1955.

In 2007, it incorporated Google Maps and Google Earth into the tracking system.

For other chances to spot Santa, visit the Santa Claus webcam and these Lapland road cameras.
