I can't quite see either second division Vale or non-league Stevenage attracting that level of support, but on a night when there's hardly any other football to watch either online or TV, it's bound to draw in many bored footie fans.

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, but even my Scrooge heart melted watching the new Marks & Spencer Christmas advert, which is so lavish and cosy that it makes me want to snuggle up to some reindeers while whistling Ding Dong Merrily on High.

It's packed with celebrities telling us that Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without. . .lots of lovely things.

There's Stephen Fry, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, James Nesbitt, Myleene Klass, Wallace & Gromit, Twiggy and Philip Glenister.

It's 125 years since Michael Marks opened his Penny Bazaar, which grew into the high-street giant that is Marks & Spencer.

To celebrate, M&S is offering one-penny delivery on all goods between 11 and 14 November. Standard delivery is £3.50, so that's a big saving. I might buy my granny a woolly jumper.

Just heard the very sad news that Edward Woodward has died, aged 79. He had been suffering from various illnesses, including pneumonia.

Ever since I saw him in the classic 1973 film The Wicker Man, he has been one of my favourite actors (I liked The Equalizer, too).
 
I've just watched the trailer for The Wicker Man (see link below), and been instantly reminded of its unforgettable sense of horror, mystery and weirdness.

But without Woodward's magnificent performance as the strictly religious Sergeant Howie, the movie's oddness would have nothing to contrast with. It's that tension that makes the film so brilliantly disturbing.

His reaction at the end of the film, when he discovers his fate, has to be one of the best scary moments in cinema history.

So Edward Woodward - RIP. Let's hope they show The Wicker Man on TV soon as a tribute.

The last remaining World Cup place for South Africa 2010 will be clinched in the early hours of 19 November, when Uruguay host Costa Rica in Montevideo.
