After Darren Bent got into trouble for attacking his former club Tottenham on Twitter, you might think that footballers would be wary of posting their thoughts on the service. But there are several players who keep supporters up to date with their life and career. Here are six of the most famous. . .
Steven Gerrard
The Liverpool doesn’t update too often, nor does he say anything terribly interesting. Despite this, he still has over 38,000 followers.
Wayne Rooney
Rooney is a lot more fun than Gerrard, responding to abusive comments ("Learn to write idiot") and enthusing about all things United. He could improve his grammar, though.
Rio Ferdinand
If you hate text-speak, avoid Ferdinand’s account, which is full of "gr8"s and numbers where only words should be. Still, he does reply to lots of messages from supporters.
Paul Dalglish
As you’d expect Kenny’s son, who gave up his football career in England to be coach in America, is a mad Liverpool fan. There are loads of mid-match comments as he watches the Reds on TV.
Juan Pablo Angel
The ex-Villa striker, now playing for New York Red Bulls, is a recent addition to the Twitterverse, but he seems to be loving it, even if he does spend most of the time moaning about injured wrists and ankles.
Jozy Altidore
The Amercan international announced on Twitter that he was joining Hull City on a season-long loan from Villarreal. He’s loving the Premier League so far because it’s "full of passion which makes every match so meaningful".
