On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me...enough shoddy greeting cards to build a tree

A jolly excited Santa

The first Christmas card was printed in 1843 (http://www.emotionscards.com/museum/xmas.html), some 160 years ago, and they have hardly changed since.

Even Santa's started drinking Coke, but Christmas cards have remained irredeemably tacky. Every year, I scour the shops and agonise over getting the least tasteless cards I can lay my hands on. Invariably, I end up buying tiny ones with minimalist designs - but while I think they look classy, I sense that my friends and family think I'm a miserable cheapskate.

This year, I'm playing it their way - they're all getting musical cards covered in lurid glitter. That'll teach them.
