Broadband users in the UK spend more than 50 days a year surfing the net, new research from comparison service site reveals.
According to uSwitch, almost 10 million homes in the UK have broadband connection and web users spend over 23 hours a week browsing websites.
The figures reveal that a total of 87 per cent of internet users spend their time shopping online – 89 per cent of men and 86 per cent of women.
Only 39 per cent download music online and 12 per cent of people make phone calls over the internet, uSwitch’s research reveals.
The figures also show that British ‘broadbander’ spend almost two hours shopping online and more than four hours playing online games.
uSwitch's research also reveals that broadband users are wasting £320 million a year as they don’t make the most of cheap broadband deals.
“With a range of ‘free broadband’ offers flooding the market it simply doesn’t make sense for anyone to be paying over the odds” claims uSwitch.
Recently, Sky announced plans to take on the broadband market and compete with TalkTalks’ free broadband offer by offering free broadband to Sky TV subscribers.
TalkTalk is offering free broadband for life to customers who sign up to its telephone service.
