Best podcasts online - part two

In every issue of Web User we highlight one of the internet's best podcasts. Here's a list of some of the most interesting podcasts we've featured so far, covering a range of subjects from technology to films to history.

DANNY BAKER PODCAST: THE ALL-DAY BREAKFAST SHOW
There are loads of podcasts that lazily repackage radio shows as bite-sized highlights, so hats off to DJ Danny Baker and his sidekicks for producing five podcast-exclusive shows a week.

------------------------------------------------------------

MOTORING PODCAST: GARETH JONES ON SPEED
Can you imagine Jeremy Clarkson singing about electric cars while spoofing a Gary Numan song? You can hear one-time TV presenter Gaz Top (aka Gareth Jones) singing it here in Show 29, and it's typical of the lively weirdness that makes this petrolhead podcast a fun listen.

------------------------------------------------------------

TECHNOLOGY PODCAST: DIGITAL PLANET
One of the best technology podcasts on the web, the BBC's weekly Digital Planet examines some of the most fascinating stories from around the world, such as the amazing report of how light-sensitive chips usually found in mobile phone cameras have been inserted into the retinas of seven blind people, partially restoring their sight.

------------------------------------------------------------

LOST PODCAST: LOSTCASTS
If you suffer sleepless nights trying to work out what on earth is happening in Lost, you should listen to this podcast. It's hosted by three fans who love examining possible theories behind the show's mysterious storylines.

------------------------------------------------------------

FISHING PODCAST: THE ITINERANT ANGLER
It can't compete with the epic Moby Dick, but this podcast has plenty of fish-catching adventures. You can hear tales of hooking bonefish in the Bahamas, chasing trout in New Zealand and pursuing the scary-named Snake River Fine-Spotted Cutthroat Trout in America.

------------------------------------------------------------

OLD-TIME RADIO PODCAST: RADIO DETECTIVE STORY HOUR
This excellent weekly podcast about old-time radio detective series doesn't just play classic episodes, it also investigates the writing behind them. Browse through the two-year archive and you'll encounter a dazzling range of characters from Sherlock Holmes to Sam Spade.

------------------------------------------------------------

GHOST PODCAST: ANYTHING GHOST
Ever thought that bump in the night was the sound of a poltergeist doing press-ups? Then email your story to Anything Ghost and it might be read out in a forthcoming podcast. A browse through the archive reveals that most of the contributors are Americans, so it's about time us Brits revealed our close encounters of the spooky kind.

------------------------------------------------------------

JAMES BOND PODCAST: COMMANDER BOND
With the 22nd Bond film set to be released in 2008, fans can keep up to date with 007 news by listening to the Commander Bond podcast. Rumours about locations for the next Bond film dominate recent episodes – Austria, Panama, Italy and Switzerland are in the running, apparently.
