A web presence is no great shakes these days, but not everyone has the expertise to create a site or, crucially, the time to learn how to do it.
A web presence is no great shakes these days, but not everyone has the expertise to create a site or, crucially, the time to learn how to do it. Mr Site provides a simple solution that’s tailor-made for the beginner.
Features:
If you have little or no knowledge of web hosting, design and HTML, Website Takeaway offers pretty much all you need, including a .com, .net or .org domain name, web space, email and simple management tools. However, if you’re looking for a powerful web editor, this isn’t it. You can manage tasks through the web interface, but it’s more limiting than using a dedicated local application like Adobe’s DreamWeaver.
Performance:
This being a web-based service, performance is affected by the efficiency of your connection, general conditions on the internet itself and the load on the Mr Site server. In most cases, this won’t be a problem, but it’s best to avoid composing pages directly in Mr Site without having a local copy of at least the text saved in a Word document or similar.
Ease of use:
It’s extremely easy to use. With your username and password (given when you register), you can access Mr Site from any PC connected to the internet. The web forms for entering content are easy to manage and even setting up complex features like web forums and shops is child’s play. Also, the documentation is clear and easy to follow.
Value for money:
Compared to a blogging service, Mr Site’s offering is a tad pricey. You can get web space, templates and a management interface for free using Blogger or WordPress. However, compare it to getting a site professionally designed and hosted, and Takeaway Website is very cheap indeed. Under £20 for a year’s hosting and domain name plus a guided interface and clear documentation can’t be bad.
Verdict
For a simple website created using templates via an online service, you could turn to Blogger or another free web-hosting service. However, for complete beginners with very little technical knowledge and a need to set up a site using minimal resources, Mr Site Takeaway Website Beginner is an excellent option.
