BT is offering a basic set of Digital Vault services for free, if you think you can make do with 1GB and don’t want the automated back-up that makes some of the other products reviewed here so useful. However, if you’re willing to pay, you can get 20GB of digital vault space for an annual fee of £60, including auto back-up software.

The service has a very neat interface, rendered in BT’s blue, translucent style, which you download to your computer. This walks you through the process of choosing files to back up and you can select entire folders or individual files, though we found it a bit slow in comparison to its rivals. You can also use the website to upload files to your storage and share them with others, but you’ll need to really want those extra features more than the unlimited storage space in order to choose this over less expensive options like Mozy or Carbonite.
