Contacts are backed up into an online address book that can be accessed from any computer and downloaded when necessary.
What we like:
Where Mobyko really shines is in its ease of use. Having created an online account and selected the phone you are using, you will be guided through the process of downloading and installing the software on your handset. Full instructions on how to perform the initial and subsequent synchronisations are provided so valuable data can be backed up in a matter of minutes. Contacts are backed up into an online address book that can be accessed from any computer and downloaded when necessary. These can also be imported from or exported to a file for transporting between computers and programs. Should you forget to synchronise your account, the site will warn you after a week’s inactivity to ensure that all your recently added contacts have been synchronised.
Mobyko also makes it possible to back up text messages, photos and videos by simply forwarding them on to a special number – again these can all be accessed from your online account. The service is available free of charge and 10 online SMS messages are offered, but more can be purchased in a variety of bundles.
How it can be improved:
While there is support for a wide range of handsets, Mobyko is far from complete. It would also be good to see support added for the backing up of calendar information as well as contacts. Support for the back up of individual files would also be an added bonus.
Our verdict:
Mobyko has most bases covered and considering the service is free there is little to complain about.
