Allmydata

This is an interesting service, with which you must agree to share some of your PC’s hard disk space.

This is an interesting service, with which you must agree to share some of your PC’s hard disk space. For every 10GB you share, you get 1GB of free online storage. When you store a file on Allmydata, it is encrypted and broken into small chunks. Each chunk is stored on someone else’s PC in their shared space, so they never have a whole file and can’t access it because of the encryption. What if someone’s PC is switched off when you want a file? No problem, it can be reconstructed even if all the parts are not available. It won’t suit everyone, but it’s a fascinating idea.
