Behind its simple, streamlined interface, ContentWatch conceals a strong set of options for monitoring and controlling your family’s web activity. From a list of 30 categories, covering such diverse topics as Hate/Violence and Intimate Apparel as well as acceptable areas like Kids and Games, you can choose to Allow, Block or Warn when access is attempted. You can adjust the sensitivity of these filters if they’re deemed too strict or soft, while a password-protected Override function gives parents ultimate discretion. Chat rooms, newsgroups and peer-to-peer programs can also be blocked; and log files, email notifications and a remote management service let you keep a close eye when you’re not at home.

Verdict

Though you can’t add your own keywords to its banned list, ContentProtect does its job extremely well. Its context-based approach ensures that unsuitable material is almost always forbidden (with the reasons why) even from foreign language sources.
