While the other packages reviewed are software downloads, BeAnywhere comes on a USB stick. Plug it into the computer you want to access remotely and install the client software. Then all you need to do is plug the USB stick into another computer, enter your login details and connect to your home PC. You can install the software on as many PCs as you like, so you can connect to whichever one you choose.

Features include remote Desktop control, file sharing and transfer, the ability to synchronise files between two PCs, and guest invites – so you can get support from a friend. The interface is the easiest to use of all our tested products and it’s half the price of GoToMyPC if you go for the monthly option. The annual subscription is even better value.
