There’s a feature in many photo organisers and image-editing programs that lets you export your photos onto a CD or DVD, which you can then play through your TV. It’s a handy way of turning your pictures into a slideshow but, more often than not, you get little control over the results.

X-oom’s Photos on TV 3 aims to give you total control over your slideshow, so you can edit it down to the finest detail. It has an automated wizard to get you started and a range of templates if you’re not feeling that creative. But it’s the ability to tweak your slideshow that should appeal the most. You can arrange your photos in any order, choose from a variety of transitions and drop in custom graphics and text.

But you need to be really into your slideshows to want to do this and, while Photos on TV offers a lot of control, you can find similar features on free programs. Picasa, for example, offers less configuration but has many of the options of Photos on TV, while video-editing software like Windows Movie Maker can also be used to carry out most of the things this software performs.
