Roxio Creator 2009

Review Date : Thu, 20 Nov 2008

Roxio Creator gives a solid collection of tools that will do a job reasonably well, while spending as little time as possible on a project still achieving decent results.

We’re getting increasingly bogged down by the volume of our own media. As video pours out of our phones and cameras, digital photos litter hard disks and new music arrives at the click of a button, we need ever more efficient ways of consolidating our media collection. Roxio Creator is the all-in-one approach to this, offering a suite of media applications.

This non-specialised approach has left it lagging behind the giants of commercial consumer media editing, such as Adobe. Instead, Roxio Creator gives you a solid collection of tools that will do a job reasonably well, especially if you’re most interested in spending as little time as possible on a project but still achieving decent results.

The VideoWave editor lets you cut and edit video projects swiftly and neatly. It will even make the cuts for you if you want a double-quick way of condensing hours of holiday footage. There’s a simple audio editor, so you can fiddle with ripped audio files (it’s easier to use than Audacity), and an image editor with extra tools for things such as panorama stitching and slideshows. It’ll also rip and convert almost any format of video and audio you care to think of and write the lot to CD or DVD, though you’ll need an optional extra plug-in (£15) if you want to move up to Blu-ray discs.
