Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6 has plenty of features, but it didn’t perform as well as Kerio or ZoneAlarm. It boasts protocol driver-level detection, which prevents malicious programs and Trojans accessing the network, and extensive denial of service protection preventing slow-downs or crashes. The user can monitor traffic, and also review history logs. All of which sounds very impressive, but in real-life operation, Sygate actually feels a bit flaky. This is not just because the user interface is overloaded and unnecessarily complex, but the settings are also hard to locate and adjust. This leaves you without the feeling of control that’s essential to using a firewall efficiently.
