Despite something of a sparse interface, 7-Zip has some useful features including support for 25 compression file formats, although only three can be used to compress (Zip, 7z and Tar). Strong 256-bit encryption keeps files secure and archives can be automatically split ready for copying to media such as CDs and DVDs. Compression rates are reasonable but the speed of the program is unimpressive.
