When you first create a Xanga account, a wizard will take you through the process of setting up your blog. You are limited to eight basic template designs, although you can edit these or design your own style. Adjusting the look of your blog is quite easy – it’s just a case of clicking to change the colours.

Every post you make can be made either public (viewable by everyone), private (viewable just by you) or protected (shared with friends). You can also add tags. As well as posting comments visitors can leave an ‘eprop’ rating, to say they like the post. You can link your blog to others by content (by joining a blogring) or location (by joining a metro). It’s reasonably well featured, although the overall layout lets it down.
