Webroot Internet Security Essentials

This security suite contains the same anti-spyware engine as Spy Sweeper, Webroot’s best-known software. It also scans for adware, viruses, keyloggers, rootkits, Trojans and other types of malware. Full, quick and custom scans of the PC can be performed and you can right-click a file or folder to check it. Out of four recent tests at Virus Bulletin, it only failed one.

The home screen lets you scan the computer, turn the firewall on or off, and switch to gamer mode – a useful feature that suspends any activity that might slow down a game. There are independent firewall settings for the local network and internet, plus a list of trusted software companies. An online back-up feature is handy but web filtering isn’t included, so it’s not family friendly.
