PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition

The free version of this program is much the same as the commercial one; all it lacks are priority updates and product support, neither of which are major omissions. It offers IntelliGuard real-time protection, numerous scan options and there’s an email scanner built in (although you’ll need to turn this on to use it as it’s disabled by default). Scans are quite slow, as are updates, but it’s reliable enough.
