Comodo AntiVirus

Although probably best known for its firewall, Comodo offers other free applications including this powerful anti-virus product. The software has all the features you’d expect to see including real-time and on-demand scanning, email protection and regular automatic updates. It also has HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention Scheme), which is a firewall-like feature designed to block malware before it can install or run. You can adjust the security level this operates at, although the default Medium setting will be fine for most people.

Scans are thorough but rather processor intensive, especially as it looks inside zip files by default. You can customise the various scan settings though, which should speed things up considerably.
