BitDefender Online Scanner

What we liked:
There's no preset ‘quick scan' in BitDefender's online scanner, but you can create your own by selecting only the items you want scanned. You can also select every drive attached to your PC in order to perform a full scan.

The Cleaning Options link lets you choose whether to open email archives, scan all files or just programs and open archives or skip them. You can select actions to take, such as to report, disinfect or delete infections.

You can also choose a second action, so if a file can't be disinfected, it will be deleted or reported - or you'll prompted for an action. Around 60MB of definition files are downloaded before the scan starts which slows it down. But BitDefender is not significantly slower when compared to its main rivals.

How it can be improved:
BitDefender only works in Internet Explorer and needs to extend support to other browsers. The absence of pre-defined quick and full scan options makes it less easy to use than our Gold and Silver Award-winners.
