Spy Sweeper Version 5.8

A competent program that offers good protection, Spy Sweeper always does well in spyware tests. The interface is clean and straightforward, and offers full, quick and custom scans depending on how much time you have. Regular scans can also be scheduled.

The real-time protection monitors Internet Explorer cookies, Favorites and add-ons. It protects the host’s file, blocks known adware and phishing sites, checks ActiveX and other Windows components, and monitors start-up programs and even email attachments. An extra trick up Spy Sweeper’s sleeve is its ‘gamer mode’, which temporarily puts off scheduled activities, alerts and updates while you’re busy playing games. All in all, Spy Sweeper offers a good range of options and the program works well.

A new version 6, which Webroot claims is even better, is due to be out soon.
