SpywareBlaster is a different proposition to the other programs, offering real-time protection from incoming spyware. It doesn’t have a standard scanner, so should be used in conjunction with something like Spybot to defend an already clean computer from future attacks.

But it’s excellent at what it does. For starters, it’s the only program here that offers specific protection for browsers based on Mozilla’s technology (including Firefox) as well as Internet Explorer. It can also stop well-known evil browser hijackers like CoolWebSearch from taking over your computer by restricting access to the irritating sites and adverts that try to trick you onto them.

There are a number of additional tools you can use to stop browser hijackers and, if you want to, even stop Flash animations from clogging up your internet connection. The software can also take a snapshot of your computer before you start, in case anything stops working and you want to go back to where you were.
