This website is packed with system-checking tools. There are performance, health, disk, drivers, and spyware scans available to run. Just download and install any that take your fancy. The results are very comprehensive but, if you do find problems or your system is infected, the free applications won’t fix or clean your system. Unfortunately, you’ll either have to do that manually, or shell out for a full version of the required component. Each one costs $29.99 (about £15.22), so it can get very expensive if you want the full set.

As well as the main scanners, there’s a free Process Library you can use to identify currently running Windows services. There are also forums for discussing the various tools or getting advice.
