Trend Micro HouseCall

A comprehensive free scanner, HouseCall checks for viruses, spyware and system vulnerabilities. You can run a Quick Select sweep which will check everything, or just scan certain folders for malware. The Extended Select tab lets you choose where to scan and what for. HouseCall offers a choice of scanning engines (kernals), so if one doesn’t work on your browser or system, you can try another.

The scanning progress is displayed in a grey strip down the side. It reports the time remaining, but this can fluctuate wildly and is only a loose guideline at best. When it’s finished, it will display its findings. Infections can be removed and it will suggest ways to fix any identified vulnerabilities. The Clean Now button will apply the best solution to all the listed problems. Anything that can’t be fixed will be left for your attention.
