This relative giant of the free image editing market has gained popularity because it's incredibly powerful, but comes wrapped in a tiny little package. In order to squash it down to size, its developers have had to take out a few features that the serious image editor might miss. You have to counter this with its ability to launch almost immediately - an example that the designers of commercial image editors could do with learning from.

However, there are no tools for painting directly onto images, making it impossible to create cut-outs, compositions or do any kind of minor image renovation. Having said this, there is a simple red-eye reduction process and its speed makes it ideal for simple tasks like cropping, rotating, resizing or adding filters and effects to the entire image.

The batch conversion option is excellent and, sat alongside the extraordinary number of image file types it supports, makes for a handy image viewer if you don't want to load up a larger program every time you need to do a bit of basic editing.
