This being a Microsoft webcam, the button on the top provides a direct link to Windows Live Messenger, which you’re encouraged to install when you load up the software. It will also work with other messengers that take their audio and video directly from Windows, and you can also import video quickly and easily to a Live Spaces blog if you have one. However, we found the built-in microphone to be the least effective of all the devices on test while the picture quality was good but no better than any of its rivals.

You get a basic set of features with the camera, for making video, recording audio and taking still images, but while the LifeCam’s communication tools will serve a Windows user well enough, we believe it’s worth spending a little more and getting a better class of product.
