This is a smart-looking, compact little printer that uses a different cartridge from its rivals to make its pictures – a three-pass colour dye-sublimation process replaces the more common inkjet, which promises hardy pictures that will last 100 years in an album. It sounds expensive, but Canon has kept prices down to about 22p per print, which is perfectly competitive.
If you want to send pictures from a phone, there’s an infra-red option but Bluetoothers will need an optional adapter. PictBridge cameras are also supported, or you can hook the device up to a PC with a USB cable.
The biggest restriction is its postcard sized prints – slightly smaller than the more standard 15 x 10 cm. And although the printed pictures were great in the detail stakes, we weren’t so keen on the printer’s colour reproduction.
