The mammoth case returns in this second model from JAL Computers, and with it all that empty internal space, ripe for upgrades when the time comes. In the meantime however, there’s plenty of goodies to get you started.
The PC has a faster processor than its budget cousin, though we were surprised to find the same amount of memory and hard disk space. However, much of the increase in specification is literally peripheral – the Logitech keyboard and mouse lose their wires, the Altec Lansing speakers have grown a sub-woofer and the monitor is a sleek, minimalist 15in flat panel.
Verdict
Perhaps the most glaring omission is its lack of a FireWire port, though this isn’t too much of an issue – those without a device requiring the standard (like a digital video camera) won’t miss it, while anyone else can use one of the case’s four spare expansion slots and add the hardware cheaply and without too much fuss.
