If you’re very serious about watching TV while away from your big screen, then the Archos 7 is worth the investment. This flagship product is no shrinking violet – with a 7in screen that takes up almost the whole device, and weighing in at 640g, it’s not a gadget that you can slip into your pocket or hold in your hand while watching your favourite show on a busy commuter train. It has a flip-out stand on the back, though, so it’s ideal for putting down on a desk or seat-mounted tray, and watching from there.

The Media Tablet has support for MPEG-4, WMV and M-JPEG video out of the box, with H.264 and MPEG-2 support as an optional extra. You can even use it to record directly from your TV with an optional caddy, which makes it the ultimate video-watching companion.

If you’re after a portable device that’ll do the utmost justice to TV shows and movies, then this is exactly what you’re looking for. The only downside is the price. However, if you consider that the Media Tablet’s screen is four times the size of the iPod Touch’s, and the lowest-capacity Archos model has 10 times the disk capacity of Apple’s highest, it could simply be the case that you get what you pay for.
