Microsoft’s latest mouse is a wireless, rechargeable device that sits comfortably under your palm. As well as left, right and central wheel buttons, it has a couple of thumb buttons – one to send your browser back, the other to open a magnifier, though you can change the functions of these via the configuration software. Pressing the scroll wheel launches a window chooser by default, which you can then scroll through using the mouse. The wheel spins smoothly, giving it a silky but accurate feel.

Microsoft uses optical technology called BlueTrack, which claims to work on surfaces that traditionally cause problems for mice – like granite or wood. It still doesn’t work on glass or mirrors though.
