At eight megapixels, this camera from Olympus might sound under-powered when compared with its rivals. However, with this model it’s not the megapixels you’re paying a premium for but the case that surrounds it.
The Oympus can be dropped from chest height with no worries and submerged in water up to 3m deep (while still taking photos). It’s even unaffected by temperature drops of -10oC.
The pictures it takes are good, too. Our only complaint is with a portrait shot we took in low light conditions, which turned out a bit flat – it might, on occasion, be worth tweaking the settings.
Whether you’re an adventurous soul or you’re just accident-prone, this sturdy snapper should survive most of what you might put it through. It’s still better value than having to buy a second camera when your regular model slips through your fingers and lands in a puddle.
