This review updated: 26/10/2006 Featured in magazine: Issue 147 Manufacturer Contacts: Web Address: www.google.com/reader Google Reader has been around for a while but, in comparison to rival Bloglines, has been woefully inadequate. But, never one to rest on its laurels, Google has recently released an update, which has caught up with Bloglines in most respects, particularly in feed organisation. Although it looks nicer and features slick movement and scrolling, we actually found it to be a bit slow, especially if you're reading feeds in the expanded view (which is our preference). This could be because of Google Reader's insistence on having lots of posts from each site available, which circumvents Bloglines's disappearing feeds problem, but means that your reader is crammed with lots of things you've already read and probably don't want to look at any more. Saving favourite posts is a handy feature but you're more likely to want to use a general bookmarking site like Del.icio.us for this instead. Google has made giant leaps with this latest version, but it's still behind Bloglines as the ultimate feed reader. Want to discuss this review?
