The Samsung Galaxy i7500 is now available in the UK through O2's mobile network.

The Galaxy is the first Android-based smartphone to be available through O2 and the first Android handset in the UK that isn't made by HTC.

It has a 3.2-inch screen, connects to the web using HSPA (high-speed packet access) 3G technology or Wi-Fi and has 8GB of memory built in.

It also includes a 5-megapixel digital camera and the device costs nothing if you take out a £45-per-month contract.

Earlier this week T-Mobile announced the Pulse, an Android phone that will be available on a pay-as-you-go contract from October.
