P702iD mood-sensing phone

I’m not in a bad mood. I’m not. I’M NOT IN A BAD MOOD GODDAMMIT! What makes you think I am? Ah, my mobile phone. Damn this clever technology. Here I am thinking happy, cheerful thoughts and believing myself to be in an all-round chirpy state of mind, and here’s my cellphone telling everyone in the vicinity that in fact I’m being all stroppy and miserable-like.

This mobile, the FOMA P702iD from Panasonic, comes in a choice of four colours – square white, square black, round silver, and round coral – and offers a Feel Talk mode which analyses your voice tone and shows you (and anyone else nearby) what kind of mood you’re in. It does this via different colour/brightness illuminations on the front and a range of stickman animations inside.

Usefully it comes with a 1.3MB camera so you can take photos of your face just to check if you really are in the mood it claims you are. (You can use the camera for other purposes too of course). It’s only available in Japan for the moment, with no word on pricing as of yet. Further information – in English – is available from here.
