You can plug all sorts of things into a USB slot. VoIP phones, flash drives, webcams, lights, drum kits… Yes as strange (some might say stupid) as it seems you can now buy a USB drum kit for your PC. And not just a little drum kit that you play with your fingers or two pens either. Nope, this is a near full-sized kit with six velocity-sensitive playing pads and two bass drum/hi-hat pedals.
The idea is you plug it into your computer’s USB port and the sound of your drumming plays through its soundcard and speakers. The main benefit of this being that you can turn it down or crank it up as you wish, or listen to your drumming through headphones if you don’t have appreciative neighbours. The USB powered kit offers 233 drum sounds and 50 preset rhythm patterns.
The kit is available from Firebox and retails for a reasonable £129.95. It’s currently out of stock, but hopefully they will be getting some in before Xmas - just in time to add some quality drum rolls to the Queen's speech.
