There are some inventions the world simply doesnât need. This is one of them. On the surface it seems like a reasonably good idea. An electronic music stand that displays sheet music on a 12in backlit LCD touch screen display. You add music scores to the device by purchasing and downloading them, or scanning them in. It then replaces the usual music books that you have to flip the pages on. The device sports two USB 2.0 ports, an MP3 player and an integrated pitch pipe and metronome. So far so⦠well⦠hmm.
We have several problems with this device. The first is it has a touch screen. So you turn the pages by touching the screen. A bit like flipping pages in the book itâs supposed to be replacing. So the benefit is what? Granted thereâs a foot-pedal you can use instead but even so. Then thereâs the fact that it only has a 3-hour battery life. Not great for concerts really.
And lastly thereâs the small matter of the price. The Hands-Free Sheet Music Library And Page Turner retails for a stupendous $1,399.95 (£737.66). Maybe weâre missing something, but doesnât that seem a tad excessive for something which is, essentially, simply replacing a perfectly adequate £10 songbook?
