Biometric fingerprint scanners are just so last year. The coolest new way to log in to your PC is to use your palm. You don’t need to press your sweaty flesh against a scanner either (OCD sufferers everywhere rejoice), just hold your palm above it. The scanner reads your veins and if you’re who you claim to be, it will log you in.

Yes, that’s right – it turns out our vein patterns are just as individual as our fingerprints. No doubt we’ll be given the chance of logging in with our knees, elbows or genitals next.

The system is reportedly so sensitive that it can differentiate between 'live' and 'dead' palms so any criminal trying to access a computer using a freshly hacked-off hand is going to be sorely disappointed.

It’s a shame really that Fujitsu’s PalmSecure (the Palm Vein Authentication System) doesn’t require you to touch it. Logging in with a handshake, or better yet a high-five, would be great.

On sale soon, it will set you back around $750.
