Storage
You can never really have too much portable storage, but 8GB will do nicely for most people. Such is the capacity of Sony's new Micro Vault Midi, a stylish USB drive capable of holding over 2,000 MP3 songs or high resolution images, or more than 20 hours of MPEG4 video footage. The device has a retractable USB connector to protect it during transit and includes compression software that allows you to store up to three times as much data.
The 8GB Micro Vault Midi (smaller capacities are also available) goes on sale next month, though the price has yet to be confirmed. Find out more at the Sony website.
Lexar's latest USB flash drive introduces a ingenious new feature to the world of portable storage: a built-in capacity meter.
The JumpDrive Mercury uses EPG (Electronic Paper Guide) technology to provide at-a-glance information about how much used and free space is on the device, and doesn't need to be plugged into your computer to work.
The drive is available in 1GB and 2GB capacities, and comes pre-loaded with security software, though prices have yet to be confirmed. Find out more at Lexar.
If your USB memory stick is consuming valuable pocket space, Sony has created a diminutive alternative. The MicroVault Tiny is said to be the smallest USB drive yet, measuring 30 x 14.5mm in surface area and a wafer thin 2.4mm thick. It offers from 256MB to 2GB of storage and comes with a colourful carry case to stop it slipping down the back of the sofa.
