Canon has spent the morning holed up with the press in a dungeon underneath London Bridge, showing off no less than 43 new digital imaging products, from high-end SLR cameras for professionals to smashing quality photo printers that'll leave you with change from £40. For the gadget lover, however, it was the new Digital IXUS models, Canon's ultra-pocketable compact cameras, that really caught the eye.
Both the Digital IXUS 70 and the Digital IXUS 75 feature the usual IXUS tiny body, specifically designed for slipping into a pocket. They have 7.1 megapixel sensors and features to make them particularly handy for tricky, indoor and lowlight shots, even without flash. There's also useful face-detection and post-shooting redeye reduction. The main difference between the two is that the IXUS 70 has a 2.5in screen and costs £249, while the IXUS 75 expands the size of the screen to 3in and the price tag to £269, and comes in a choice of black or silver.
Canon also launched a raft of digital video cameras, using both miniDV and DVD to record on; four new PowerShot still camera models; three printers; a handful of projectors; and a top-of the range digital SLR camera that claims to be the fastest in the world (and costs over £3,000 - maybe something for after we've won the lottery).
