Ricoh has announced an entirely new camera system intended to bridge the gap between digital compact and SLR cameras. Clearly influenced by the Micro Four Thirds system introduced by Panasonic and Olympus, but featuring larger image sensors incorporated into the interchangeable lens units, Ricoh is hoping to attract the kind of person who craves the image quality of a DSLR with portability of a compact model.
Available at launch with a choice of two lens/sensor packages to go with the camera body, and a range of accessories including a digital viewfinder and external flash, there are a wealth of options. At £419 for the body and either £329 for the 10MP or £599 for the 12MP lens/sensor options it's a pricey alternative - you could certainly step onto the DSLR ladder for less. But if you're looking for high-quality in a compact body, it's an option worth considering.
See Ricoh for more details, the system will be available to buy from mid-December.
