CCleaner is one of the best known cleaning tools available – and with good reason. Not only is the program available free of charge, but it includes a range of options that go far beyond the basics of system clean-up. In addition to familiar options such as emptying the Recycle Bin, deleting temporary files and clearing out MRU (most recently used) lists, the program will also wipe-out unnecessary memory dumps, file fragments and a range of information stored by other applications. Several options are on hand to ensure the Registry is free of obsolete or incorrect entries and a useful tool is available to take control of start-up programs.

The interface makes the program delightfully easy to navigate and even inexperienced users can benefit from a range of advanced options. Some people may not like the inclusion of the Yahoo Toolbar with CCleaner, but at least it lets you access the program from within Internet Explorer, and the installation is optional.
