Web Design round up
Product reviews > Software > Web Design

The first web pages were written as text files, because HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), which is used to dress up the text and place pictures amongst it, uses simple text codes. Web pages are still created using this text based system, but now you can create web sites in a more natural, visual way and let a software program do the work of translating your designs into HTML.

The main difference between a web design program and more traditional page design software for printing, is that the buttons and other clickable parts of your website have to be defined with attributes - instructions that tell the web browser what they're supposed to do when you click on them or move your mouse over them.

There are some web design programs available for free. These are fairly basic but assuming you don't want to set up an large corporate e-commerce site then you should be able to set up some fairly decent web pages. If money is no object, there are packages available that will do everything you could dream of, but they do tend to be a little expensive.

In this section we also include any other software that can be used to improve or build upon your website.
