What edges WOT into second place ahead of the competition is its community-based approach. Instead of relying on statistical analysis, it uses a site-reputation system based on user feedback.

Every site you visit is given an overall trust-rating based on business dealings, protection of details and how child-safe it is. This information is instantly available wherever you are on the web but on supported search sites – of which this seems to cover the most – the usual threat-level icon appears, which you can hover your mouse over for the individual ratings. It's a very user-friendly approach, discarding more technical ratings in favour of a plain-English approach.

Blocking and warnings on sites come in a number of configurable ways. A rating meter in the Address Bar measures the risk of the current page. A drop-down bar, full-page flash or complete block on these sites can also be selected.

It's only failing is that it won't stop or try to block dangerous content such as ActiveX controls or programs, but for ease of understanding it's ahead of the rest.
