Serif's software is a no-nonsense video editor. Although its interface isn't as pretty as its rivals', it focuses on efficiency with single-button keyboard shortcuts and speedy, cursor-key navigation.

Most of its features are crammed onto the main interface so there are buttons for practically everything you could think of, but the compromise is that they're so small they're pretty fiddly to click on. A wizard process is available to speedily create DVDs from templates direct from the software, though it's very customisable so you can change various things, like the menu background, with ease.

There are some limitations – the pan and zoom options aren't easily configurable and there's a limited set of file formats to create movies in, though it includes the major ones: QuickTime, Windows Media Video, AVI and MPEG 1 and 2.
