Available as both a boxed version and as a 40Mb download, Paint Shop Photo Album is a comprehensive suite of tools for enhancing, organising and sharing your photos. It's very simple to use, operates via an intuitive, uncluttered interface and is packed with useful and fun features.

From the central browser you can access every image on your hard disk or grab shots from a camera, scanner or card reader. Pictures can then be arranged into albums and catalogued using titles, descriptions, dates and keywords such as location, occasion, photographer or subject. This makes it
incredibly easy to find a specific photo, no matter how large your collection.

The program offers a decent set of image-editing tools to help you correct dodgy shots, plus a number of special effects. These include adding frames, ripples or a sepia tint to your photos, and the ability to 'thinify' your subject in a Kate Winslet style. A'quick fix' function allows you to perform corrections with a single click, while the Adjust Wizard guides you through the editing process step by step.

Sharing your photos is equally simple, be it by email, on the web or as a slideshow. Best of all, you can create a Video CD (using a CD-R drive) to play on a DVD player, adding text, backgrounds and a soundtrack to your pictures.

Photo Album takes a while to install, but once up and running provides everything you need to maintain a high-quality digital photo collection. Its range of tools and flexibility make it excellent value for money.
