Although this is the junior in terms of its specifications, it's the only PC we tested in its price range to come with a flat-panel monitor. If a flat screen is more important to you than memory, hard disk space and graphics then it's a valid trade off. In terms of looks, however, it'll certainly cut a dash on your desk.

In typical Packard Bell style there's a lot here to get you started, making this a handy system for novices. A 'click me first' button on the Desktop takes you straight to documentation and set of tutorials, Norton Internet Security 2004 comes pre-installed so hackers and viruses are covered, and it also has nifty Media Centre-style software for easy access to watching DVDs and creating slideshows of your photos.

Verdict
It's a little bare in terms of internal features, especially when compared to the other budget machines on offer here, but if you think small is good, looks are more important and you're an under-confident beginner, its got things on offer that its rivals don't have.
